It's 2025.
The second quarter of the 21st century began as I flip flopped through languid summer days at the beach, with family and curled up with a good book - this year, Orbital, Samantha Harvey's worthy 2024 Booker prize winner. The sublimest of sublime writing.
It feels a time for some healthy unravelling. A time to lighten myself for the year ahead and re-kindle that invincible summer within. To wander, jandelled, through the next little while, unconcerned with answers. Looking more deeply into my questions.
Who do I want to be and make of the coming year?
How do I stay light, open, receptive to what the world has to offer?
How do I glide effortlessly through the demands and pressures of a tightening world?
It seems easy to yield to the demands of a frantic world, and drive ourselves to complete exhaustion by year end. To sacrifice ourselves is a common, but deeply unconscious pattern, these days.
For me, putting a regular place in my diary for spaciousness, helps. Making the time.
- daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly -
to connect with myself and all that makes life meaningful
to cultivate mindfulness
to foster compassion and empathy for all the parts of myself
to build my capacity to see things in a rightful perspective
to make sense of all my experiencing
Space is not a dispensable luxury, but rather a necessary sanity in a crazy world.
But it does require a certain determination and discipline to make it a regular practice.
Is it in your busy schedule?
