Out of our Heads

from right to real

I worked differently with a client this week. It's a relationship with a good level of trust, so we could try something different.

I wanted to get out of our heads and let go of all the stories - theirs and mine - we tell ourselves. To explore other ways of knowing beyond the constraints and delusions of the rational mind perhaps. To have a more authentic conversation. Rather than 'working on' my client, or doing coaching to them.

We worked more in the physical moment, as a kind of portal to what really needs to be said, seen, learnt.

We focused on the body

Where it placed itself in relation to, in this case, an aspiration

How the body animated itself, expressed itself, and

How it felt, what it felt and where it felt.

There was a freeing sense of mindlessness to our conversation. Light, playful maybe?

Without any framework or method, or pre-meditated lines of inquiry.

More about letting ourselves go really, to let the conversation take us where it felt right. Effortless in a way, less intentional, more real in a visceral way. The less I tried, the more I noticed - the energy, the distances, the whole body responses. The shared observations and questions took on a life of their own. It was pure stance, and a willingness to be taken.

It seemed a truthfulness of working with what was right in front of my eyes, and going from there.

It's a practice I look to explore some more.
